The Duke of Edinburgh Award Portugal is an international non-formal education programme for personal and social development through voluntary and non-competitive activities. It is aimed at all young people aged 13 to 25, encouraging them to develop as active, participating citizens who make a positive contribution to society. It prepares them with life experiences to make a difference to themselves, their communities and the world. It is also the only national and international programme that recognises young people for what they do. In Portugal, the Founder and Honorary President is HRH the Duke of Bragança.

By participating in community service and learning to serve others, young people are encouraged to support their neighbours; by practising a sport, they acquire physical development and sporting habits; by going through the talent section, they discover new talents in themselves or simply acquire professional experience, which is so necessary nowadays; and in the adventure section, considered a test of survival, carried out in groups and where leadership qualities, responsibility and maturity are highlighted through the three existing levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold.

In this regard, students are asked to volunteer one hour per week (they can do so at EITV by helping in the kitchen/pantry, gardening, assisting nursery teachers/assistants, or supporting younger students who attend the study room), one hour of physical activity per week (those who are already involved in clubs such as football, tennis, basketball, gym, among others, only need to ask their coaches/trainers for recognition) and one hour of talent per week (practising dance, singing or any type of musical instrument is considered a talent as long as it is accompanied by a teacher).

The Award complements academic education and the benefits for young people include recognition by universities and employers, among many others. It is currently considered one of the best investments in young people’s education, adding value to their CVs.

Please note that the registration fee for the Award for the 2025/2026 academic year, approved for EITV, is 75,00€ (seventy-five euros) per participant.

Note: Registrations must be made by October 31st with the teachers responsible for the activity: Prof. André Pinheiro, Prof. Bruno Gomes, Prof. Daniela Fernandes, Prof. Miguel Rodrigues, Prof. Paulo Craveiro and Prof. Stephany Ventura.

With our best regards
